And Dave says I don't live in the ghetto ...
The other night, Kristen-formerly-of-Columbia-now-of-Cambridge and I were walking home from the Tube up Camden Road. About three minutes into this seven-minute journey we saw two cops talking to two teenage boys. (ASBO what?) Five minutes in, we saw a cop with a dog sniffing around a yard. And, at the building right next to my dorm, we saw, again, a cop with a dog sniffing around the yard.
"Welcome to Camden," I told Kristen.

Best thing ever: Going to the market at approximately 6.15pm for a one-pound bag of fresh honey-glazed donuts. Even better: putting them in the oven for five minutes. Yummmmm.

Went to see The History Boys last night with Kristen. It was quite good, considering that we had ten pound tickets and were in the last row. Lately, though, between that and The Prestige, I've been starting to notice a certain sense of male exclusivity in certain plays/films (those two in particular) -- a way in which the female voice is excluded from the discourse almost entirely. Someone's been having too many lectures on feminist theory in comp lit!

Seen on the blackboard of my comp lit classroom last week:
patriarchy
phallocentrism / phallogocentrism
sex/biology -> gender -> sexuality
liberal / Marxist / radical / socialist / psychoanalytic / po-mo
ontology / epistemology
female / male & feminine / masculine
Beauvoir, Cixous, Kristeva, Irigaray
(comp lit-gasm much?)
